Film Intro: Alone

What does it mean to stay for someone who no longer remembers that you are there?

"ALONE" by Mona Daoud (Egypt ), offers an intimate glimpse into the strained relationship between an older woman living with dementia, and her live-in caregiver. A deeply personal story about memory, loneliness, sacrifice and the complicated ways in which love endures, the film asks what it means to keep choosing someone even as they slowly begin to disappear.

Director Mona's own experience helping her father care for her mother, who lives with dementia, became the deeply personal inspiration behind "Alone", co-written with Shahira Galal. The project was selected for the "HerStory Incubator" and became one of three films to receive a production grant.
