Film Intro: Dear Mama

How does our relationship with our parents change when we look back at the moments we once took for granted? 💌

"DEAR MAMA" by Xiaohan Sun (China 🇨🇳), is an intimate animated letter from a daughter to her mother, returning to memories of the summer-night walks they once shared.

Created frame by frame on layers of baking paper, subtle shifts between the drawings produce a delicate flicker, reflecting the fragile and constantly changing nature of memory. 🫶

Xiaohan Sun is an animator and filmmaker who grew up in mainland China and graduated from the Royal College of Art’s Animation MA in 2025. For Sun, animation becomes a space to preserve thoughts, memories and emotions. Through drawing, she explores the subtle moments within relationships and finds new ways of looking at experiences from the past.
