How do we carry the love of someone who is no longer with us?

"EYELASH" by Doğa Kılcıoğlu Esen (Turkey 🇹🇷), is an animated short about a little girl who grows up beneath the eyelashes of a giant eye, a poetic and deeply personal story of loss, grief and transformation.

Inspired by the director’s own experience of losing her father, the film transforms grief into a surreal visual world. To Kılcıoğlu Esen, her father had always felt like a giant eye watching over and protecting her. From this memory grew the image of a little girl living beneath his eyelashes and the story of how a single eyelash can transform her life. 👁️

Drawing on the Turkish expression “May your eyelash never touch the ground,” a wish of love and protection, "Eyelash" explores what remains after loss and how love can continue to shape us even through absence. 💗

Doğa Kılcıoğlu Esen studied Cinema and TV at Galatasaray University before continuing her film studies at Paris Sorbonne III University with a French Government scholarship. Her documentaries have screened and received awards internationally and "Eyelash" has already received several awards. 🏆
